Transportation

Does the billet family have to provide transportation for the player(s)?

  • No, many players come to Foxboro with their own cars and will drive themselves to/from the rink each day. Those without cars will be placed in billet homes along with teammates that can help to drive them, or placed near another billet family in the area and carpools will be arranged.

DAILY SCHEDULE FOR OUR PLAYERS

What is the player's typical schedule like?

  • The players' season runs from early September-late March/middle of April (depending on playoffs).

  • The teams generally practice/play 6 days a week, with one off day. The schedule varies dependent upon the team, but the players are generally at the rink during late morning/afternoon for about 3-4 hours a day.

  • The game travel is primarily in the New England area. Teams travel several weekends a month, and overnight travel may be necessary for showcases or out of state games.

  • The teams have a holiday break in November and late December to coincide with Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah. The majority of the players travel home to spend this time with their families when possible.

ABOUT BILLETING

Junior hockey players need families willing to share their homes and become a “home away from home.”  These are elite level players who are coming to our program with hopes to play at the college level and beyond. These players are between the ages of 17-20.

We often are asked "What does this entail?"

  • Families receive a monthly billeting stipend of $750 for each player
  • Families can host 1 player or more.  Some have found it easier to house two players as they can travel together and are company for each other.   There have been instances where families have welcomed 3 or even 4 players at a time.
  • Host families have included traditional 2-parent families, single-parent families and “empty nesters” too.
  • The commitment is for the hockey season only.  Most players go home for holidays and holiday breaks. The hockey season runs from late August - April.
  • Families need to provide a room of his own, or can share with a teammate, that includes a bed, dresser, closet space and a desk or table and chair.
  • Families need to provide the players with two meals per day: typically breakfast and dinner. Players are responsible for their own meals when they travel.
  • Players will obey all house rules, show respect and consideration and take care of their own belongings.

Willing to host?  Many families hosted for dozens of players from many states and countries throughout the years.
