NCDC Picks Up 4 Points at USPHL Winter Showcase!

The Kings defeated first place New Jersey Hitmen 6-2 on Monday!

Marlborough, MA - The South Shore Kings NCDC team went 2-0 this past weekend at the USPHL Winter Showcase.

On Sunday, the Kings jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Rochester Monarchs. Jack Luca (Milton, MA) recorded his 4th goal of the season and Michael Boutoussov (Anaheim, CA) picked up his 5th goal of the season shorthanded. The Monarchs answered midway through the period with a goal from Conner Fitzpatrick. Daniel Gellon (Bolzano, Italy) put the Kings back up by two at 9:21 of the 1st period. 

The Monarchs would score two goals in the 2nd period to tie the game 3-3. The score would remain tied until late in the 3rd period when Jude Cole put the Monarchs ahead with a powerplay goal. The Kings answered 18 seconds later on a goal from Connor Lind, (Marlborough, MA). The game would go into overtime and the Kings went on the powerplay early on. Kevin Mackay (Franklin, MA) won the game for the Kings at 2:03 of the overtime session. Erik Voloshin (Bedford, NH) earned the win in net for the Kings making 40 saves. 

On Monday, the Kings chased the New Jersey Hitmen goaltender out of the game with 3 goals in the first 13 minutes of the game. The Kings special teams was a big factor in the game. Daniel Gellon made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal. Just 1:23 later, Kevin MacKay scored on the powerplay to put the Kings up 3-0. The Hitmen would score a powerplay goal late in the 1st period. 

In the 2nd period, it was Lukas Kucera (Praha, CZE) who found the back of the net on the powerplay to give the Kings a 4-1 lead. Kucera recorded a goal and 3 assists in the win. This was Kucera's 7th goal of the season. Mickey Burns would cut the Kings lead to 4-2 with a breakaway goal at 12:16 of the 2nd period. 

Kevin MacKay scored his 2nd goal of the game and 5th goal of the season on the powerplay at 6:43 of the 3rd period. Uri Lurie (Lexington, MA) scored his 1st goal of the season, which gave the Kings a 6-2 lead with 9 minutes remaining. The Kings shut it down from there and went on to defeat the Hitmen 6-2.

Evan Szary (Nashville, TN), was outstanding in the victory, recording 38 saves on 40 Hitmen shots. 

 

The Kings NCDC return to action Saturday Janaury 11th when they host the Rochester Monarchs at 4:30PM! This is the first game of a weekend series with the Monarchs.
