Keith Yandle article in the Boston Globe on April
30th
Defenseman Keith Yandle is coming off a very strong season, his
first in the Quebec Major Junior League. The 2005 Cushing Academy
graduate, who turns 20 September 9th, opted for Junior hockey over
opportunities at the University of New Hampshire and the University
of Maine, and it paid off. The 6-foot-2 inch, 195-pounder won the
Emile Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL's best defenseman, the same honor
Hall of Famer Ray Bourque took home after the 1978-79 season while
he was playing for Verdun. Yandle, who was selected in the fourth
round (No. 105 overall) by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2005 draft,
had 25 goals, 59 assists, and 109 penalty minutes in 66 games with
the Moncton Wildcats. Yandle also took home the Telus Trophy as defensive
player of the year was named a first-team all-star. Moncton general
manager Ted Nolan, former coach of the Buffalo Sabres, won the Maurice
Fillion Trophy as GM of the year.
